Video: Plows Reducing Snow Mounds Along Streets

Post Date:02/03/2014

This winter’s heavy snow has caused City of Plymouth snowplow operators to run out of places to push snow when they clear streets. Piles of plowed snow along city streets – called wind rows – have become so high that the snow is falling back onto the street.

Plymouth Public Works crews began addressing the problem the week of Feb. 3 so that they will be prepared for the next snow storm. The "shelving" work will continue during the week of Feb. 10. To reduce the height of the wind rows, plow operators will push back snow piles by traveling down streets with the plow blade lifted. The plows will push back the top portion of the snow from the wind rows to reduce the height of the mounds and create space for any new snow accumulation. This will ensure that during the next snow fall, the snow will be piled alongside the street rather than fall into the street.
