This program works in partnership with officers to assist with traffic and crowd control, transportation of prisoners, surveillance and patrol activities, special events and other educational programs. The program has an authorized strength of 20 members. The reserves collectively donate almost 3,000 hours to the department annually.

CERT is a 25-member team that provides critical support at emergency scenes and disaster sites. They are trained to assist in critical situations, such as missing children, tornadoes, or other natural or man-made disasters. They participate in a number of community education, preparedness planning and prevention activities. More information.

All volunteer opportunities are coordinated through the city’s volunteer services.

This program allows youth, ages 14 to 20, to explore a career in law enforcement. Explorers meet once a week throughout the year with police advisors. Explorers study an array of topics, including search and arrest, traffic stops, crime prevention and use of force. New members pay an initial fee of $25 to join and are responsible for monthly dues of $5. More information.

This program consists of area volunteer pastors from a variety of religious denominations. Chaplains respond to death notification situations, counsel officers and family members, visit sick or injured officers and assist at difficult situations. They also work with disaster victims to refer them to appropriate agencies for assistance.
