Saturday morning’s chilly, rainy weather didn’t dampen enthusiasm for the Plymouth Fire Department’s 5K run/walk. Registration topped 450 for the event, with runners from 72 different communities – some as far away as Ontario, Canada and Oregon. The Kids’ Fun Run had 82 runners.
Mark Hall of Minnetonka finished first in the men’s division with a time of 18 minutes, 4 seconds. Jennifer Brady-Johnson of Medina claimed first in the women’s division at 21 minutes, 13 seconds. Second and third place in men’s and women’s were Bill Revering of Coon Rapids and Brian Maas of Plymouth; and Lib Larson of Waverly and Sherri Schultz of Young America.
Firefighters from 11 departments joined their colleagues on the Plymouth Fire Department for the run.
The event had special significance this year as the Plymouth Fire Department celebrates its 50th anniversary. Engine #1 came out of retirement for the event and firefighters from the 1960s shared stories from the early days of the department.
