Plymouth Human Rights Committee Names Middle School Essay Contest Winners

Post Date:02/04/2013
Jake Emerick, an eighth-grade student at Wayzata West Middle School, earned top honors in the Plymouth Human Rights Committee’s annual middle school essay contest. Emerick will receive a cash prize of $100 for his winning essay that advocates speaking up to overcome bullying.
Rachel Wyffels’ essay on the roles of ethics, government and personal actions to protect human rights earned the Wayzata Central Middle School eight-grader second place. She will receive a $75 prize.
The essay contest was sponsored by the Plymouth Human Rights Committee. Members of the committee visited both schools to make surprise presentations to both students. The two winners and their families will be congratulated and receive their awards at the Feb. 12 Plymouth City Council meeting.
