Plymouth Parks & Recreation (city) attempts to be flexible in accommodating user groups, but ultimately the health and safety of the user and the condition and playability of the rinks takes priority. This may require the closure of rinks, denial of use, and/or identifying alternative sites for use by city staff whenever weather or rink conditions dictate.
Events, programs, and/or facilities may be cancelled/postponed or closed by the city if it determines that weather conditions are unsafe for participants, conducting the activity will have a severe and lasting impact on a rink or facility, or crews are unable to maintain safe access to a rink or facility.
User groups cannot skate on rinks that have been closed by the city. Failure to follow the policy could result in forfeiture of the groups permit and ability to reserve rinks in the future.
Based on weather/ice conditions, rinks may be closed under the following conditions:
- Snow cover on rinks
- Warm or thawing of ice
- Thickness of ice
- Overall ice conditions
- Severe cold (generally -10 degrees Fahrenheit or -25 degrees wind chill)
On a day where any of the above conditions may occur, the City would make a determination on rink closures by 2:00 p.m. The procedures for closure are:
- Update the city weather line indicating rinks are to be closed for the day/evening. The weather line number is 763-509-5205.
- City staff will email user groups with reserved ice time or warming house rental that the rinks are closed.
- City staff will email staff scheduled for the day/evening that rinks are closed.
- City staff will turn off lights at closed rinks for the day/evening.
