According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, construction work on westbound Highway 55 between Interstate 494 and Plymouth Boulevard is set to begin Monday, July 6, weather permitting.
Motorists may encounter lane closures on westbound Highway 55 Monday night and Tuesday while crews restripe the road and place barrier to get ready for construction. There also will be two right turn lane closures at the intersection of Hwy 55 and Fernbrook Lane:
- The right turn lane from westbound Hwy 55 to northbound Fernbrook Lane will close Monday, July 6 through early August. Traffic will be detoured to northbound Plymouth Boulevard and eastbound 34th Avenue.
- The right turn lane from southbound Fernbrook Lane to westbound Hwy 55 will close Monday, July 6 through early August. Traffic will be detoured to westbound 27th Avenue and northbound Niagara Lane.
The closures are needed as crews begin work on a construction project that includes:
- Constructing a new third through lane on westbound Hwy 55 between I-494 and Plymouth Boulevard
- Extending left turn lanes from westbound Hwy 55 to southbound Fernbrook Lane
- Constructing right turn lanes at westbound Hwy 55 and Fernbrook Lane
- Improving accessibility, traffic signals and drainage system
The project is scheduled to be completed in late August, weather permitting. For more information about the project, visit mndot.gov/metro/projects/hwy55plymouth.
