In this episode of Along for the Ride, a short video series by Plymouth Police, Community Relations Officer Jim Long and Sgt. Angela Haseman provide a list of 10 tips residents should use to prevent property theft and burglary. Watch the video on YouTube.
Burglary Prevention Tips:
Lock up. In Plymouth, about 60 percent of burglaries don’t involve the use of force.
Become an active member of a neighborhood watch. Areas where people know one another have less crime.
Make your home look occupied. Burglars choose homes where no one appears to be inside. Use interior lighting to give the impression that you’re home.
Use a high quality deadbolt lock on your home and on garage service doors.
Always lock your car and keep your garage door opener out of sight.
Consider an alarm system. Alarms and posted alarm company signs are a deterrent.
Utilize outdoor lighting at night.
Use locks on your windows and secure sliding doors.
Take a look at your landscaping. Do you have overgrown hedges, trees or anything else that prevents neighbors from seeing a break-in occur?
