Motorists should be on the look out for new speed limit signs on Vicksburg Lane in Plymouth. The speed limit on Vicksburg Lane from County Road 6 to 28th Avenue dropped from 50 miles per hour to 45 miles per hour.
The reduced speed limit is aimed at reducing accidents and improving safety on the heavily travelled stretch of Vicksburg Lane, which also has several access points to and from residential areas.
To raise awareness of the change, Plymouth police will be more visible along the stretch of the roadway. The Police Department also will position its speed trailer in the area to let motorists know how fast they are traveling. The trailer shows drivers their actual speed as compared to the posted speed limit.
“Safety is our main objective. We want cars to travel at a lower speed so that we reduce the number and severity of crashes on this segment of Vicksburg Lane,” said Police Chief Mike Goldstein.
Public Works Director Doran Cote advises motorists to be mindful of speed limit signs along Vicksburg Lane because the speed limit varies depending on the area.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation approved the lower speed limit for Vicksburg Lane from County Road 6 to 28th Avenue after receiving a request from the City of Plymouth. The Plymouth City Council sought the lower speed limit as a means of addressing safety concerns on this segment of the road. The reduced speed limit will be in effect for two years. During that time, the City of Plymouth will gather data on speed violations, traffic accidents and enforcement efforts.
