Bike Helmet Sales Start May 3

Post Date:04/23/2012
Bike Helmet SalesThe Plymouth Police and Fire departments will kick off the annual sale of bike helmets on Thurs., May 3, 6-8 p.m. at Fire Station III, 3300 Dunkirk Ln. N.

Bike helmet sales will be offered twice a month, on the first and third Thursdays, running May through August, 6 - 8 p.m. at Fire Station III. Helmets range in size from toddler to adult extra large and come in many styles and colors. Traditional bike helmets are $10 and $12, and multi-sport helmets are $15.

The Minnesota Safety Council reports that if all bikers wore helmets, one death could be prevented every day and one head injury would be prevented every four minutes.

The bike helmet program has become a tradition for many families. “Kids get to pick out the helmets that they like. We’ll fit them, and the family is on its way to a safe summer. Many times families can purchase four new helmets for less than the cost of one adult helmet at retail price,” said Sara Lynn Cwayna, public safety education specialist. Cwayna has participated in the Thursday night sales since 1994.

The Police and Fire departments sell between 700 and 900 helmets a year.
