City Increases Reward to $6,000 in Park Vandalism Case

UPDATE: The City of Plymouth has increased the reward to $6,000 for information leading to arrest and prosecution in this case.

The Plymouth Police Department has posted a reward and is asking the public for help as it works to solve one case of arson and several cases of vandalism that have occurred in city parks this summer. The incidents have resulted in nearly $100,000 in damages.

Damages at Turtle Lake Park, where a playground was set on fire, and Zachary Park, where a park building was vandalized, totaled $35,000. More than $60,000 in additional damage has been incurred in parks throughout the city. 

Crimes have been committed during both daytime and nighttime hours. Police have responded to more than 30 police calls as the result of park vandalism.

Public’s Help Requested
Police are asking residents to:

  • Be alert when they are enjoying the parks.
  • Report people who are in the park after park hours.
  • Report anything that seems suspicious by calling 9-1-1.
  • Call the Police Department’s Special Investigations Unit at 763-509-5179 if they have information that may pertain to these crimes.
  • Call 9-1-1 if they see kids out past curfew.
  • Report graffiti by calling 9-1-1. This will allow the police to document the graffiti and dispatch the park workers to promptly remove it. 

Know the Hennepin County Curfew Law
Report kids that are out past curfew by calling 9-1-1. In Hennepin County, youth must abide by the following curfew hours:

  • Under Age 12 - Home by 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday – Home by 10 p.m.
  • Ages 12 – 14 - Home by 10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday – Home by 11 p.m.; and
  • Ages 15-17 - Home by 11 p.m.; Friday and Saturday – midnight.

Plymouth Park Hours

  • Neighborhood Parks 7 a.m. - 10 p.m.
  • Playfields 7 a.m. - 10:30 p.m.
  • City Parks 7 a.m. - 11 p.m.

The City of Plymouth is offering a reward up to $6,000 for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the criminals involved. Information can be provided to Plymouth Police Special Investigations Unit at 763-519-5179 or via Crime Stoppers. Tips can be reported through Crime Stoppers by phone, website or text message. Submit tips to Crime Stoppers by:

  • SMS Text Messaging Tips -- Text “TIP674" plus your message to CRIMES (274637).
