The purpose of the open houses is to present an overview of the 8-mile construction project on I-494 between I-394 in Minnetonka and the I-94/694 Interchange in Plymouth and Maple Grove. Open house attendees will also learn about other construction projects on neighboring roads: Highway 12, Highway 610 and I-394.
The two-year project on I-494 will result in a third lane between Highway 55 and the I-94/694 interchanges, and safer, longer-lasting roads, ramps and bridges. The construction will require full, weekend closures of the interstate, short- and long-term ramp closures, and reducing the road to three lanes on one side of the interstate (two lanes one direction, one lane in the opposite direction).
The project on Highway 610 includes extending and connecting the highway from County Road 81 and Elm Creek Boulevard to I-94.
The Highway 12 project includes constructing an auxiliary lane on eastbound Highway 12 between County Road 15 and the eastbound Highway 12 ramp to I-494. The auxiliary lane will help reduce congestion on eastbound Highway 12 during the a.m. peak hours and improve safety.
The construction on I-394 between Highway 100 and I-94 in Minneapolis will require reducing the road to two lanes (work on eastbound and westbound I-394 will happen independently) for 14 days and closing some ramps and the Lyndale Avenue Bridge over Dunwoody Boulevard.
Open house attendees will learn the details of the projects, view layouts and have an opportunity to ask questions of MnDOT engineers and staff.
