MnDOT Announces Weekend Closure of Northbound I-494 Beginning April 10

Post Date:04/03/2015

Motorists traveling on Interstate 494 in Maple Grove, Plymouth and Minnetonka will encounter nightly lane closures beginning April 6, and a weekend closure beginning April 10, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Beginning at 7 p.m. Monday, April 6 through 5 a.m. Friday, April 10, there will periodic overnight lane closures on both directions of I-494 between I-394 and I-94/694. The lanes will reopen by 6 a.m. the following morning.

Beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, April 10, crews will reduce the lanes and close ramps on northbound I-494 between I-394 and I-94/694. At 10 p.m., northbound I-494 between I-394 and I-94/694 will close. Motorists should use Highway169 to bypass the northbound closure.

By 5 a.m. Monday, April 13, southbound I-494 between I-94/694 and I-394 will be closed and motorists will be driving on the northbound lanes of I-494.

During the a.m. peak travel periods there will be two southbound lanes and one northbound lane on I-494 between I-94/694 and Highway 55. There will be two lanes in each direction on I-494 between Highway 55 and I-394.

During the p.m. peak travel periods there will two northbound lanes and one southbound lane on I-494 between I-94/694 and Highway 55. There will be two lanes in each direction on I-494 between Highway 55 and I-394.

The weeknight lane reductions and weekend closure is necessary so crews can prepare northbound I-494 for the new traffic configurations scheduled to begin April 13. The two year construction project includes repairing the pavement on the interstate, adding a third lane between Highway 55 and I-94/694, and building noise walls along the corridor.

Motorists are advised to drive carefully through the work zone.
