Looking for a book to read, and maybe a little adventure to heat up the end of winter? How about reading what many other Plymouth residents will be reading this winter as part of Plymouth’s second annual Citywide Read – Chasing Vermeer by Blue Balliet.
The book was selected because it is appropriate for youth, teens and adults, according to Travis Karlen, recreation supervisor and liaison to the Plymouth Fine Arts Committee.
The story centers around two children who are drawn into a mystery surrounding the theft of a priceless Vermeer painting. Coincidences, unexplained events, intuition and puzzle-solving all come into play as the children work together to solve the mystery and protect their friends along the way.
You can join the challenge to solve puzzles, search out mysteries in art and answer questions for a chance to win a special prize as you read the book. To learn more, and to register, visit the Plymouth Fine Arts Council website.
The Citywide Read, which is aimed at promoting community and the literary arts, is sponsored by the Plymouth Fine Arts Council (PFAC) in partnership with the City of Plymouth, Plymouth Community Library and The Bookcase bookstore. Organizers hope that as many as 3,000 people will read Balliet’s book and get together at various events to discuss it or learn more.
