Throughout December, households on Plymouth’s curbside recycling program will begin receiving new 65-gallon curbside recycling carts in preparation for the beginning in January.
Residents should not use the new carts until January.
The new wheeled carts will make it easier for residents to get recyclables to the curb. In addition, more materials have been added to the list of recyclables, making it possible for some households to reduce the size – and cost – of their garbage service.
With the new carts there is no need to sort materials – everything can go together right into the cart.
Here are answers to some questions residents may have about the new carts.
Q As snowbirds, we will be out of town when the carts are scheduled to be delivered. What arrangements should we make?
A Contact city recycling staff at recycling@plymouthmn.gov or 763-509-5506 with your name, address and phone number. When you return, contact city staff or Allied Waste Service at 952-941-5174 to request a cart delivery.
Q Will the new cart fit in my garage?
A The footprint of the new wheeled carts will only be a few inches larger than the present recycling bins. In most cases they fit well in the space currently taken by the bin.
Q What if I have more recyclables than fit in one cart?
A If one cart isn’t enough for all you recycle, call Allied Waste Service at 952-941-5174 to order an additional one.
Q When can I start using the new cart?
A Please wait to use the new cart until January. Until then, please continue to place your recyclables at the curb each week in the bin you have been using.
Q How will I know what weeks to recycle?
A Check the for your recycling schedule.
Q Can I keep my blue recycling bin after the new program starts in January?
A Please continue to use your blue recycling bin through December. After that time, you may keep the bin. The January Plymouth News will include options for people who don’t want to keep their blue bins.
